The Jallikattu brigade: Celebrities who are supporting the bull taming sport in Tamil Nadu

As the row over the ban on Jallikattu intensifies, many big names including superstar Rajinijkanth legendary singer and composer AR Rahman, five time World Chess Champion Vishwanathan Anand and spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar have come out in support of the bull taming sport.

Here is a list of celebs who are supporting Jallikattu:

Sadhguru Vasudev, spiritual writer: "The bull is part of a farmer's family as it lives with them. Jallikattu celebrates the farmers' relationship with their livestock." 

"Jallikattu should be seen as a sport. If such festivals do not take place, the livestock will line up at slaughter houses."

Rajinijkanth: Jallikattu should be allowed as the sport, as it is an integral part of the culture.

AR Rahman: "I'm fasting tomorrow to support the spirit of Tamilnadu!"

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: “I support Jallikattu & request that the movement remains peaceful.Let's have patience while a fresh appeal is made in SC with correct facts.”

Vishwanathan Anand: “#jallikattu is a cultural symbol. Respect it. Im all for animal rights but here that is not the point. tradition & livelihood are”.

Kamal Haasan, actor: “If you want a ban on jallikattu, let’s also ban biryani… I’m a big fan of Jallikattu.”

Suriya, actor: “Paradoxical to see those aiding extinction of native breeds talk about cruelty to animals in the bull-taming sport”.

“Words such as heritage, identity, and history are generally being used by scholars but are now the buzzwords among youth due to Jallikattu issue. Thanks to all those who secured a ban on Jallikattu and prompted the youth to fight for a common cause.” 

Dhanush, actor: “Jallikattu is an integral element of the voice and identity of Tamilians.”

Vijay, actor: “Law was not created to rob people off their tradition and rights but to protect it. Jallikattu is every Tamilian’s identity.
