Heavy rains to hit Northeast, Maharashtra; dust storm in Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh today

New Delhi:

The weatherman has predicted heavy rains in the Northeast region and Maharashtra, and strong dust storm, thunderstorm in Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

Hot weather conditions will prevail over north and central India and warm conditions are very likely in a few areas of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, an official in the Met Department said.

In Delhi:

The weather on Sunday may remain clear, but thunderstorm or dust storm may occur in the evening and night, a MeT official said.

After the strong dust storm that hit Delhi-NCR on Friday evening, the mercury level in the national capital fell a few notches, bringing some respite for the people from the hot weather on Saturday. The minimum temperature was recorded at 26.6 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal. The maximum temperature was 38.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below the average in the season, the MeT official said.

Relative humidity oscillated from 38 per cent to 60 per cent on Saturday .

On Sunday, the minimum and maximum temperature will hover around 28 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius, respectively, the weatherman said.

Dust storm hit Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, and Ghaziabad on Friday night and brought the maximum temperature down from 42 degrees Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature yesterday had settled at 30 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average.

In Uttar Pradesh:

Dust storm and thunderstorm accompanied with light to moderate rains occurred at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

On Friday, the MeT Department in Lucknow said, the day temperatures were below normal in Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Lucknow, Bareilly, Kanpur, Moradabad, and Meerut. Jhansi recorded a maximum temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius, it said.

Thunderstorm and dust storm accompanied with gusty winds are likely to hit isolated places in the state on June 3.

Rain and thunderstorm are likely at isolated places in the state on June 4 and June 5.

In Rajasthan:

Severe heatwave conditions prevailed in Rajasthan on Saturday, with Bikaner recording a maximum temperature of 47.4 degrees Celsius. Churu, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sriganganagar and Kota registered maximum temperatures of 47, 46.8, 45.6, 45.3 and 45 degrees Celsius, respectively, according to the MeT department in Jaipur.

Jaipur, Pilani and Ajmer recorded a high of 44, 43.7 and 43.5 degrees Celsius, respectively, it said. Dust storm and thunder storm also occurred at isolated places in Jaipur and Udaipur divisions since Friday. The MeT department has predicted dust storm and thunderstorm accompanied with light rains at isolated places in eastern parts of the state in the next 24 hours.

In West Bengal, Northeast states and other places

The India Meteorological Department predicted heavy rains at isolated places over West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Maharashtra.

Thunderstorms and squalls are very likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal. Thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning are very likely in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Odisha, according to the IMD weather advisory.
