New Delhi:

Two workers of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) were shot dead on Saturday evening by three unidentified men at Maharasthra’s Ahmednagar, the police said on Sunday.

The shocking incident comes three weeks after two local Shiv Sena leaders were killed in a similar fashion.

The NCP workers were standing on the main road of Jamkhed town, when three attackers came on a motorcycle and fired around eight rounds on them, district Superintendent of Police Ranjankumar Sharma said.

Both the deceased were the residents of Jamkhed town, he added.

Both of them were identified as Yogesh Ambadas Ralebhat, the district vice-president of the NCP’s youth wing and Rakesh Arjun Ralebhat, executive committee member and office-bearer of the party’s unit in Ahmednagar, SP Sharma said.

A case under relevant sections was registered and no arrest has been made so far regarding the case, Sharma added.

The police is still looking into the matter and identifying the motive behind the murders.

Minister Ram Shinde, last night visited the hospital where the bodies were brought.

Loud slogans were shouted by the supporters of the two deceased NCP workers against the minister outside the hospital premises.

In a similar case, on April 7, two assailants had shot dead two local Shiv Sena leaders at Shahunagar in Kedgaon after the result of civic bypoll in the area was declared.
