Ugly side of Delhi, road accident victim lies on road for 12 hours, no one comes to rescue

One Narendra Kumar from Jaipur who met with an accident lied on Delhi roads for 12 hours before rescue came for him.

The national capital is popularly referred to as ‘Dilli dil walo ki’ but on Tuesday-Wednesday the popular adage attached to the city seemed just words.

Lakhs of people passed by, a thousand others stopped and gave a peep at an injured youth lying on the roadside crying for help at Delhi’s transitional hub Kashmere Gate, but none lended their hand for help.

A few hard-hearted people escaped away with his purse, mobile phone and Rs 12 which had fallen from the ground in the span of 12 hours before Delhi Police came for his rescue.

According to police, one Narendra Kumar — a youth from Rajasthan’s Jaipur — was crossing the road in from of Kashmere Gate interstate bus terminus when he was hit by a speeding car On Tuesday.

Police added that Kumar laid there for more than 12 hours but no one called the emergency numbers or rescued the injured.

“On Wednesday morning one of the PCR vans on duty at the area noticed Kumar. On inquiring they learnt about the accident and was rushed to  Sushruta Trauma Centre for medical aide,” said the police officer.

The doctors of Sushruta Trauma Centre on the intensity of injuries referred the victim to Safdarjung Hospital.

Kumar talking to News Nation said, “Only one person gave me water to drink while others just passed away after showing pity on my condition. I repeatedly cried for help but no one came forward.”

The victim added, “One took away my mobile phone, another my money bag and one collected the coins fallen on the ground from my pocket and escaped.”

“It’s an unfortunate incident. We have lodged an FIR against the people who stole him,” said Jatin Narwal, DCP (north).

The DCP added that people should come forward and help road accident victims.
