Kolkata:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday claimed that PM Modi-led government’s days are numbered as the people have decided to form a new government at the Centre. “A new government will be formed at the Centre. It is inevitable. Their expiry date has come. This is people's verdict,” the Trinamool Congress chief said while addressing the ‘United India’ rally in Kolkata’s historic Brigade Parade Ground.

The Chief Minister said that the opposition would stand together to defeat the BJP in 2019 and the prime minister can be decided later. “We (opposition parties) promise to work together. Who will be the prime minister can be decided after the Lok Sabha elections?” Banerjee told thousands of party supporters present at the rally.

Banerjee also claimed that the BJP does not give respect to many of its own senior leaders and people like Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj and Nitin Gadkari are ignored in the saffron party. “Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, and Nitin Gadkari ignored in BJP; if it wins the LS polls, they will be ignored again,” claimed Mamata Banerjee.

The TMC chief said the government of India is misusing institutions like CBI, ED and has destroyed its credibility. She also targeted the BJP for desperately trying to organise ‘rath yatra’ and said that her government will not allow riots in the name of ‘rath yatra’ in the state.

Noting that the present situation in the country is of "super Emergency", Banerjee said it is worse than that imposed by Indira Gandhi and raised the slogan of 'Badal do, badal do, Delhi mein sarkar badal do' (change the government).

The TMC has claimed that around 40 lakh people are likely to reach the Brigade Parade Ground for the rally, which could be the biggest ever political rally at least in last 10 decades. However, the Kolkata police said that the ground can hold around 7 Lakh people.

The rally was attended by Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu, DMK's Stalin and even BJP’s own Shatrughan Sinha.
