Bengaluru:

A suo moto case was registered on Tuesday against the Mangalore district Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) President Jagadish Shenava for delivering a controversial speech during a book release programme held at the TV Ramana Pai Hall on January 28.

On January 28, a book “Hadedavvana Shapa” was released at the TV Ramana Pai Hall. During the programme, Jagadish Shenava had said, “Basheer’s murder was revenge for Deepak Rao’s murder. We are not worried about Basheer’s murder. If Sharath Madival was murdered as a revenge for Ashraf’s murder why then Basheer cannot be assaulted for innocent Deepak’s murder?”

Basheer, a Muslim man was attacked and killed in Mangaluru allegedly in retaliation for the murder of Deepak Rao, a Hindu man.

Various organizations have demanded the arrest of Jagadish Shenava and submitted memorandums to the Deputy Commissioner.

The city police have taken up the investigations and a case has been registered at the North Police station under Section 153 (A) and 116 IPC.
