New Delhi:

On occasion World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to post a stunning video with a special message for protecting Mother Earth. "Our planet and environment is something we all cherish greatly. Today on #WorldEnvironmentDay, we reiterate our commitment to ensure a cleaner planet," the prime minister wrote on micro-blogging site along with the small video clip. In the video, PM Modi said that planting saplings is not enough and people have to take care of it till it becomes a tree. The video also had visuals of his Kedarnath and Badrinath visits. He began his tweet with a beautiful Sanskrit shloka, “माता भूमिः पुत्रोऽहं पृथिव्याः।,“ which roughly translates to Earth is our mother and we all our her children.

Modi is recognised worldwide for his unique pro-environment policies. In 2018, the United Nations had awarded him Champion of the Earth honour for his policy leadership. The UN’s highest environmental honour was bestowed upon Modi for his leadership of the International Solar Alliance and pledge to eliminate single use plastic in India by 2022. French President Emmanuel Macron, President of France and Modi were jointly recognised in the Policy Leadership category for their pioneering work in championing the International Solar Alliance and promoting new areas of levels of cooperation on environmental action, including Macron’s work on the Global Pact for the Environment and Modi’s unprecedented pledge to eliminate all single-use plastic in India by 2022.

In Modi Sarkar 2.0, protection of the five elements of nature and simultaneous progress will be the guiding principle at the Environment Ministry, Prakash Javadekar recently said. Speaking to the media after taking charge of the ministry, Javadekar, who was the environment minister in the last NDA government for two years, said it was "ghar wapsi" (homecoming) for him. "It is like ghar wapsi for me. Progress and environment protection are possible together and that will be the guiding force for our ministry. The Modi government in the last five years has shown that it is possible," he said after signing the official documents along with Minister of State for Environment Babul Supriyo.
