New Delhi:

In a tragic incident, one person lost his life after the roof of the building that houses Bank of Maharashtra's branch in Solapur collapsed on Wednesday. According to reports, over 30 people are feared trapped. So far 10 people have been evacuated and shifted to a nearby hospital.

Most of the injured people are reportedly employees of the bank who were inside the branch when the incident took place.

The incident happened days after 13 people lost their lives in a building collapse in  Mumbai's congested Dongri locality.

Shocking details of negligence emerged after the collapse of the 100-year-old four-storey. According to reports, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) chairman Uday Samant admitted that the building should have been demolished in 2012.

Samant, also a lawmaker from the Ratnagiri-Sangmeshwar constituency, said that the contract to demolish the 10-year-old building was given to a private contractor. "Strict action will be taken, no one will be spared...the developer and our officials should have seen the work," Samant said.

The MHADA said that it had given a no objection certificate to the builder for the redevelopment of the building in 2012. The BMC had also asked its residents to vacate the building in 2017.
