While the BJP will repeat its 2014 performance in Delhi, it may face some challenge in Haryana.

New Delhi:

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may sweep the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Delhi by winning six of the total seven seats while the resurgent Congress is likely to get some respite in Haryana, according to the opinion poll conducted by News Nation in the two tiny but crucial North Indian states. As far as the prime minister’s post is concerned, Narendra Modi still remains the first choice for the top job despite a sharp decline in his popularity since 2014.

In national capital Delhi, the BJP, with 39 per cent vote share, may win six of the seven parliamentary seats in Delhi. While the Congress may once again fail to open its account, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is predicted to win one seat with 31 per cent vote share.

When asked about the most suitable candidate for prime minister’s post, Narendra Modi was the first choice with 49 per cent votes against Rahul Gandhi’s 19 per cent. Twenty-three per cent people, however, wanted someone else for the top job. Nine per cent people failed to make any choice.

The one thing that may concern the BJP in Delhi is that 49 per cent Delhiites (respondents) said that they were not satisfied with the NDA government at Centre while 56 per cent people gave thumbs up to the Kejriwal government in Delhi.

In Haryana, the resurgent Congress-led by Rahul Gandhi is expected to bounce back with 29 per cent vote share, just one per cent less than the BJP's 30 per cent vote share projection. The BJP, however, is likely to win five of the total 10 seats against the Congress' three.

Regional parties - Om Prakash Chautala's INLD and Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) are projected to win one seat each. While the INLD may get 15 per cent of vote share, the newly formed JJP is likely to get 12 per cent votes in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
