In yet another fatal accident on the Yamuna Expressway, eight people died and 30 were injured after a bus rammed into a truck near Greater Noida on Friday. Injured have been taken to local hospital. The accident is a stark reminder of poor safety record of the crucial Yamuna Expressway, which serves as the key road to connect National Capital with major towns like Vrindavan and Mathura. "The bus was on its way to Noida from Agra. The incident took place under Rabupura police station limits around 5 am. The bus belongs to Auraiya depot. Eight people were killed and 20 injured in the incident," police said in a statement. Police personnel were present at the site of the accident and the victims were rushed to the nearby Kailash Hospital in Jewar, it said.

On March 26, woman was killed when her Volkswagen Polo rammed into a truck near Zero Point on Yamuna Expressway. The accident happened on busy Monday morning. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed shock and grief over the accident. He has ordered the local authorities to help the victims in proper way. According to a 2017 study, Yamuna Expressway reported highest number of deaths. More than 140 people were killed on the six-lane freeway in 2017. According to a reply to an RTI filed in 2017, private concessioner Jaypee Infratech Limited had said that more than 1,426 people were injured in the accidents on the Expressway. The 165-km-long expressway was launched in 2012.

The accident occurred in the area that falls in Rabupra Police Station jurisdiction. News Nation has learnt that the expressway has no light or reflectors. 

In January this year, Delhi-based singer Shivani Bhatia also died on the Yamuna Expressway. The 24-year-old popular singer was accompanied by her husband Nikhil Bhatia, when they met with an accident on the Yamuna Expressway on January 30. Shivani was runner up in a Bhojpuri singing competition in 2016.

 Shivani succumbed to her injuries at Niyati hospital in Mathura. Sub-inspector Shiv Veer Singh, toll address in-charge of Yamuna expressway said, "The accident occurred after Nikhil attempted to overtake a high-speed car and lost control on his vehicle. The car was completely damaged from the side where Shivani was sitting.

Shivani Bhatia was known for singing remix songs like Dil Ko Tumse Pyar Hua, Shagan and Neele Neele Ambar Par. Shivani belonged to Sitamarhi in Bihar. However, due to professional commitments, she was based in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar for the past several years. She was a popular stage performer in Delhi-NCR. The family didn't conduct a post-mortem examination of Shivani's body.
