New Delhi:

Aditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav, is likely to contest upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections. According to sources privy to the development, the Yuva Sena chief may try his luck from Worli seat in South Mumbai. If he does, Aditya will become the first member of his family in history to contest any election.

The talk of 25-year-old Thackeray contesting the election was fuelled after he embarked on 'Jan Ashirvad Yatra’ - a state-wide outreach programme – ahead of Assembly elections.

“The proposal to field Aditya Thackeray from Worli Assembly seat has been already given to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray,” Shiv Sena spokesperson Anil Parab was quoted as saying by Lokmat. According to Sena sources, the final decision would be taken by party chief.

However, but to ensure the problems of the people are heard in Mantralaya.

"The Jan Ashirwad yatra is not meant for furthering my political aspirations. Nor is it for anybody's political ambitions. The yatra is to ensure people's issues and problems find a voice in Mantralaya (the state secretariat)," he had said.

He claimed the Shiv Sena was not a political outfit but a people's movement, adding that its shakhas (field offices) were open for the public all the time.

Worli, currently represented by the Sena's Sunil Shinde, is considered a safe seat since majority of corporators from the area belong to the Shiv Sena.

Meanwhile, Aditya Thackeray has been elected as a vice president of the Western India Football Association, the governing body of the sport in Maharashtra.

Aaditya is currently president of the Mumbai District Football Association.
