Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and DMK leader TR Baalu on Thursday demanded to adopt a resolution against Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi to remove her from the post. The two leaders in Lok Sabha alleged that Kiran Bedi has humiliated the people of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Leader of Congress in the lower house, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi in a tweet has humiliated the people of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in such an outrageous manner that the House should adopt a resolution to remove her from the post. This is our demand.”

Raising the issue, DMK leader TR Baalu said, “In a tweet Puducherry Lt Governor has ridiculed the people and entire society of Tamil Nadu. If Government endorses her view then it means it supports her, I request Deputy Leader of the house to respond.”

In the meantime, taking a cognizance of the severe complaints lodged by both Congress and DMK members in the house against Kiran Bedi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Puducherry Lt Governor has expressed her regrets and the matter pertaining to her controversial remark should be laid to rest.

The Defence Minister took a notice of her another tweet saying that Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has already expressed deep regret. “In the light of words expressed by Lt Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi, I would like to request the members to put the issue at rest,” he said in Lok Sabha.

It is to be noted that Kiran Bedi, referring to a media report on the water situation in Chennai, had said that the city has become the first in the country to run dry four years after it witnessed floods due to copious rains. The people's perception, in response to the report, was that the situation arose due to “poor governance, corrupt politics and indifferent bureaucracy,” she had said.

However, the Lt Governor had later said that she had shared only the people's perception. "It is not my personal view and hence there is nothing personal in the message," she had noted.
