After Historic 'Howdy Modi' In Houston, PM Modi Reaches New York To Address 74th UNGA

After his electrifying address in the "historic" 'Howdy Modi' diaspora outreach event in Houston, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday arrived in New York to address the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and take part in other "multilateral and bilateral" engagements in the city. Modi left for New York on Sunday night and reached the JFK International Airport same day after 10 pm (local time).

"Lending India's voice to the global discourse PM Narendra Modi arrives in NYC for UNGA-74. PM will be participating in sessions on Climate Change, SDG, and universal health among others and will meet India’s various regional/multilateral partners," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in a tweet.

Earlier in the day, in a grand show of friendship and common vision, Prime Minister Modi shared the stage with US President Donald Trump at the gala "Howdy, Modi!" event held at the sprawling NRG Stadium in Texas. The two leaders pledged to fight terrorism while heaping praise on each other's achievements.

Modi also addressed a gathering of members of the Indian community in the US, where he requested Indians living across the world to send at least five non-Indian families to India as tourists every year.

"Farewell Texas! After an unprecedented and historic visit to Houston, PM Narendra Modi departs for New York City to address the UNGA-74 and participate in other multilateral and bilateral engagements," Kumar tweeted after Modi left Houston.

In New York leg of the visit, PM Modi will be attending a few key events at the United Nations, including the Climate Action Summit, an event on Universal Health Coverage, and opening plenary of the Bloomberg Global Business Forum. These forums will give opportunities to showcase India's efforts to build peaceful and prosperous world.

At the UN, India is also scheduled to host a programme to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2019. The event, which would be graced by several world leaders including US President Trump, will showcase the rich thoughts of Gandhi Ji. Both Modi and Trump will address the UN General Assembly in New York on September 27.
