Heavy rains and thundershowers hit Delhi and triggered landslides and flood-like situation in several parts of India, including Himachal Pradesh and Odisha on Thursday, police said.
The heavy rainfall in Delhi caused water logging at several places and traffic inconvenience to commuters. The downpour brought some respite from the day’s heat and the maximum temperature in the city on Thursday was recorded at 34.0 degree Celsius, while minimum temperature settled 27.0 degree Celsius.

In Odisha, incessant rains crippled life in several places. The depression over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression, raising the likelihood of more downpour till Friday, officials said. Low-lying areas in several districts, including Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Khordha were inundated as heavy rain pounded many parts of the state since Tuesday, they said.
With rain water leaving several areas marooned in Cuttack city, the administration declared closure of all educational institutions Thursday.
Rains in most parts of Himachal Pradesh would also continue till September 10, director at the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, Manmohan Singh said. The National Highway-5 in Himachal Pradesh was blocked on Thursday due to the landslides, resulting in traffic snarls. Three vehicles parked near the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital and two vehicles at Tibetan market were also damaged, the police said.
According to the data recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm Thursday, 20 mm of rainfall was recorded in Shimla, 34 mm in Sunni and 30 mm each in Fagu and Chail. Singh said 32 mm of rainfall was recorded at Banzar in Kullu district, 15 mm in Manali, 14 mm in Sarahan and 11 mm of rainfall was recorded at Bharwain in the last 24 hours.

Keylong was recorded as the coldest place in Himachal Pradesh with a minimum temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius whereas Una was recorded as the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile in Rajasthan, many places received heavy to moderate rains in the last 24 hours. Bayana of Bharatpur district recorded 15 cm of rainfall followed by 11 cm in Nadbai, 7 cm in Deeg, 6 cm in Veir and 5 cm in Roopbas, a MeT Department official said. On Thursday, Jaipur recorded 5.7 mm of rainfall followed by 2.1 mm in Banasthali, he said.

The MeT Department has predicted heavy rainfall in Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Dholpur, Jhalawar, Karauli, Kota and Swai Madhopur districts in the next 24 hours.
Over 1,400 deaths due to monsoon floods in 10 states have been reported, according to official data.
