Alwar Gangrape: Massive protests in Jaipur, Bhim Army chief detained by police

New Delhi:

National president of Bhim Army, Chandra Shekhar alias Ravan was taken into custody by Rajasthan police as he led massive protests in the state's capital Jaipur againt the Alway gangrape incident. The Bhim Army chief has called Jaipur Bundh on Friday against the brutal gangrape of a woman in front of her husband by five man in Alwar.

In a horrendous incident, a woman belonging to scheduled caste in Rajasthan's Alwar district was allegedly gangraped for nearly three hours by five people in front of her husband. While the accused took their turn to outrage the modesty of the woman, one of them shot the incident on his mobile phone and shared the video on social media. The incident had taken place on April 26 but came to light on Tuesday as the police had allegedly asked the victims to wait till the elections are over.

The Bhim Army cheif had Thursday warned the Rajasthan government to stay in its limits and stop arresting its workers who were protesting against the incident. Announcing the protests, he said that he will make the state government realise the power of "Bahujan".

After the incident came to light, the police came in action and arrested all the five accused involved in the crime. The Congress-led state government also took action against the police officials who had allegedly refused to register an FIR and suspended Alwar SP Rajiv Pachar and Thanagaji police station SHO.

Reacting to the incident, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that the incident was a serious issue and assured justice for the woman. He said that the culprits will be brought to justice and the case will be taken up under the case officer scheme. The cheif minister said that he has decided to appoint a CEO level official to monitor the crimes against SC/ST woman.
