Arvind Kejriwal terms Delhi Metro’s proposed hike as ‘anti-people’

New Delhi:

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal termed the proposed metro fare hike as ‘anti-people’ on Thursday.

Kejriwal has asked his Transport Minister to find ways to prevent the hike of metro fares.

The Delhi chief minister tweeted, “Metro fare is anti-people. Have asked Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot to find a way in a week to stop this fare hike.”

The remarks came from Kejriwal amid reports of the Delhi Metro’s fares set to increase for the second time this year from October 1.

Delhi Metro had hiked minimum fare from Rs 8 to Rs 10 and maximum fare from Rs 30 to Rs 50 in May.

The fares were increased by the Delhi Metro after a recommendation of fourth Fare Fixation Committee.

Kejriwal earlier this week had met the Union Minister Hardeep singh to discuss on fund-sharing pattern for Metro Phase-IV project and other issues. In the meeting the Delhi government agreed to the 50-50 percent equity sharing model.
