Ahead of publication of the final NRC list on August 31 in Assam, the State Coordinator for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) on Wednesday released a guide to check if one's name is featuring in the list or not. The authority will make the links available on NRC website (www.nrcassam.nic.in) tomorrow under the title 'Supplementary list of inclusions/exclusions status (final NRC).
People who would be able to check their application status are those - who submitted a claim after not being included in the complete draft published on July 30, 2018, or excluded in the additional draft exclusions list published on June 26 this year, or had any objection filed against their inclusion, or were called for hearings held from 5 July, 2019 onwards.
Meanwhile, people who were part of the final Draft list, or not excluded in Additional Draft Exclusions List, or called for hearings held from 5 July, 2019 onwards should not worry about their inclusion status. All of them will continue to be included in the final NRC list, scheduled to be published at 10:00 am today. Here are the steps to check if your names have featured on final NRC list:
To check the final NRC list offline, citizens need to visit their respective NRC Seva Kendra/Office of Circle Officer/Officer of Deputy Commissioner and look for their names in the Supplementary Inclusions List on all working days from 10 am to 4 pm.
- Visit NRC website – www.nrcassam.nic.in or www.assam.mygov.in
- Click on the link - "Supplementary Inclusions/Exclusions Lists (Final NRC) status"
- Type in your Application Reference Number (ARN) to check if your name has been added to the final NRC list
With just few minutes left for the publication of the NRC list, security measures across the state have been stepped up with 144 CrPC imposed in various parts of Assam to maintain peace and public order. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on August 23 also reviewed the law and order situation of the state in a meeting in Guwahati with the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all districts.
The final NRC list will carry the names of all Indian citizens who have been residing in Assam before 25 March, 1971. In the final draft, issued on 30 July, 2018, as many as 40, 07,707 applicants of the total 3.29 crore registered names found them excluded.
Out of the 40.37 lakh applicants who were not included in the draft list, 36.2 lakh have claimed inclusion. On 26 June, 2019, the NRC authority published an additional draft exclusion list, where an additional 1, 02,462 persons were included in the list of excluded persons, taking the total ineligible persons to 41, 10,169.
Assam, which had faced influx of people from Bangladesh since the early 20th Century, is the only state having an NRC that was first prepared in 1951 after the Census same year. It was prepared by recording particulars of all the persons enumerated during that Census.
