Ayodhya Case: Supreme Court to conduct hearing on day-to-day basis from August 6

The Hearing Comes A Day After The Three-member Mediation Panel, Headed By Former Supreme Court Judge FMI Kalifulla, On Thursday Submitted Its Report About The In-camera Proceedings In A Sealed Cover To The Court.

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered day-to-day hearing from August 6 on the politically sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case after noting that mediation proceedings to resolve the dispute amicably have failed. A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi took note of the report of the three member mediation panel, headed by former top court judge FMI Kalifulla, that its effort to find out an amicable resolution to the dispute have failed.

The bench said that in view of the development, the land dispute will be heard on day-to-day basis from August 6. The mediation panel in its report submitted on Thursday said the Hindu and the Muslim parties have not been able to find a solution to the vexatious dispute. On July 18, the three-member panel was asked to inform the court about the outcome of the mediation proceedings as on July 31 by August 1 to enable it to proceed further in the matter.

#02:10 pm: Resuming the hearing in Ayodhya land dispute case, CJI Gogoi says, 'The hearing of the case will be on a day-to-day basis, hearing to begin from August 6th.

#11:14 am: On December 6, 1992, the Babri Masjid, constructed at the disputed site of Ayodhya in the 16th century by Shia Muslim Mir Baqi, was demolished during a political rally, triggering an unfaltering riot. It has been alleged that the mosque was constructed after demolition of a temple.

#11:13 am: Fourteen appeals have been filed in the top court against the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment, delivered in four civil suits, that the 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya be partitioned equally among the three parties - the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.

#11:12 am: The seat for the mediation process was fixed in Faizabad of Uttar Pradesh, around 7 km from Ayodhya.

#11:11 am: The bench was earlier told by Hindu bodies, except the Nirmohi Akhara, and the Uttar Pradesh government that they were not in favour of the court's suggestion for mediation. The Muslim bodies had supported the proposal.

#11:09 am: The three-member mediation panel also includes spiritual guru and founder of the Art of Living foundation Sri Sri Ravishankar and senior advocate and renowned mediator Sriram Panchu.

#11:08 am: Apart from CJI Ranjan Gogoi, the five-judge bench also comprises Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and SA Nazeer.
