New Delhi:

Babri Masjid litigant Iqbal Ansari was Tuesday attacked inside his house in Ayodhya by two people, who allegedly threatened to kill him if he did not withdraw his claim from the dispute, even as the matter is being heard by the Supreme Court on daily basis.

Ansari was saved by his security personnel and his attackers were detained by the police. According to news agency PTI, a man and a woman entered Ansari’s house on Tuesday afternoon.

“The woman introduced herself as Vartika Singh and claimed that she was an international shooter. They asked me to withdraw my claim from the dispute, threatening that she would otherwise shoot me,” the agency quoted him Ansari saying.

“They then attacked me but I was saved by my security personnel,” Ansari said, adding that he did not sustain any major injuries in the attack.

Faizabad Superintendent of Police (City) Vijay Pal Singh said, “We have detained them.” However, the police official didn’t confirm whether an FIR is registered in the case. “I will let you know,” he said when asked about the FIR.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday sought responses from two persons for allegedly threatening senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan for taking up the case on behalf of the Sunni Waqf Board and other Muslim parties in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute matter.

Dhavan had filed contempt petition against two persons, N Shanmugam, a retired education officer, and a Rajasthan resident, Sanjay Kalal Bajrangi, for allegedly threatening him for appearing for Muslim parties.
