New Delhi:

Putting an end to the politcal crisis in Karnataka, BJP state president BS Yediyurappa on Friday sworn-in as chief minister for the fourth time. The oath-taking ceremony of Yediyurappa was administered by Karnataka Governor Vaju Bhai Vala at Raj Bhawan.

He will now have to prove majority in the Assembly on July 29. The swearing-in ceremony of Yediyurappa came a day after Karnataka Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar disqualififed three rebel MLAs for deserting the Kuamraswamy government.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Kumaraswamy government had fallen after it failed the floor test in the Assembly on Tuesday. In a sudden development on Friday morning, Yeddyurappa met the Governor to stake the claim and requested him to administer the oath of office and secrecy Friday itself, following which Vala invited him to form the government.

Before the swearing in, Yediyurappa said he would decide on members to be inducted into the ministry after consulting party president Amit Shah. This is the fourth stint for Yediyurappa as the Chief Minister-- the last one was after the May 2018 Assembly polls, when he barely lasted three days after being sworn in.

Earlier last year, Yediyurappa had to resign as cheif minister as he could not muster a majority after staking claim to form the government on the ground that his party had emerged as the single largest one.

Even before taking oath as the chief minister, Yediyurappa instructed heads of all departments to put on hold orders relating to new projects that were issued in the current month by the H D Kumaraswamy-led coalition government until further review. He has also put on hold all transfers that were cleared, but have not been executed.
