Recently, a debate on intolerance was triggered once again after noted Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah, referring to the Bulandshahr violence, said that in some parts of the country a cow's death was being given more importance than the killing of a police officer.

“There is complete impunity for those who take the law into their own hands. In many regions, we are witnessing that the death of a cow has more significance than that of a police officer,” Shah had said during an interview with Karwan-e-Mohabbat India.

Following his remarks, the actor came under the attack of right-wing trolls and was even asked to leave the country and settle in Pakistan. In no time, Shah turned from one of the most respected actors of the Hindi film industry into many things - a “traitor”, a “Pakistani agent”.

The President of Uttar Pradesh's Nav Nirman Sena, Amit Jani, even booked him a one-way ticket to Pakistan dated for August 14, 2019, when the country celebrates its Independence Day. Reacting to Shah’s statement, Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Mahendranath Pandey had said the actor was growing into Pakistani agent, a character he played in one of his movies Sarfarosh.
