Amid tension, Pakistan violates ceasefire along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch

Pakistan troops violated the ceasefire by targeting forward posts with mortar shells and small arms along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Tuesday, a defence spokesperson said. The cross-border firing by Pakistan started at about 6.30 pm and ended at 8.00 pm, he said.

The Indian Army retaliated befittingly, the spokesperson said.

On Monday, one terrorist was arrested who entered into Indian territory following ceasefire violations by Pakistan at two locations in Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir. “There was heavy ceasefire violation at two locations in Poonch yesterday. In general area of Delina Chowk, a terrorist was apprehended after a joint check-post manned by police and army drew fire from a truck. Another terrorist entered a nearby locality, operation underway,” reported ANI.

One AK-47 and one pistol have been recovered by the police. The Indian Army is giving a befitting reply to Pakistan's unprovoked ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC).

Meanwhile, terrorists belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror group on Monday abducted and killed two members of the nomadic Gujjar community from a forested area in Pulwama district, police said.

Abdul Qadeer Kohli of Rajauri district and Manzoor Ahmed of Khonmoh area of Srinagar were abducted by unidentified gunmen from 'Dhok', a temporary shelter, from the forested area of Tral in Pulwama district around 7:30 pm, a police spokesperson said.

This is the first terrorist attack after the BJP-led NDA government abrogated provisions of Article 370 and announced bifurcation of the state into union territories on August 5.
