Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Diwali through his radio programme Mann Ki Baat. It was the 58th episode of the programme. This episode came after the BJP's victory in the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections.

The programme was broadcast on the entire network of AIR and Doordarshan. It was streamed LIVE on the YouTube channels of PMO, I&B Ministry, AIR and DD News. 

Mann Ki Baat | Highlights:

PM Modi: "During Diwali we burst different types of fire crackers but sometimes this leads to incidents of fire and injury. My request to you all is be safe and celebrate the festival with fervor." 

PM Modi: "There  must also be many  who are yet to do shopping. So along with Diwali greetings I urge you to purchase some locally made product. Even we can make significant contribution towards realising  the dream of Mahatma Gandhi."  

PM Narendra Modi: "The more we try to buy locally made  products Gandhi 150 will become a great opportunity in itself. I believe we must buy something which is prepared, by our weavers, prepared by Khadi." 

PM Modi: "We all know that Siachen glacier is source of rivers and clean water and so running a cleanliness campaign here means ensuring clean water for those who live in the downstream areas and use waters from Nubra and Kshob Rivers." 

PM Narendra Modi: "Today, if there is one story which reverberates throughout the country it is the story of cleanliness. Every person, family, village wants to tell their experiences about cleanliness effort. This movement for cleanliness is driven by 125 cr Indians."  

PM Narendra Modi: "My request is that any Indian who takes time off to travel should at least visit 15 tourist destinations with family and stay overnight at these destinations." 

PM Modi: "Friends, for country, all the states, and tourism industry the Statue Of Unity can become a source of study. We have witnessed that how, within a span of one year, one place develops into a world famous tourism destination."  

PM Narendra Modi: "More than 26 lakh tourists have visited Statue of Unity, that means, every day, on an average, 8500 people visited. This  amply demonstrates the love and devotion towards Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel." 

PM Narendra Modi: "I am sure you all remember 31st October, birth anniversary of India’s Iron Man, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel a legend who united the country."

PM Modi: "In one of his travels to North, Guru Nanak Devji visited Kashmir. This established a strong bond between the Sikhs and Kashmir. Guru Nanak Devji also travelled to Tibet where people accepted him as Guru Mann Ki Baat."

PM Narendra Modi: "Guru Nanak Devji undertook several spiritual journeys called `Udasis'. Taking message of love and equality, he travelled to every direction. Everywhere, he interacted with masses, saints and Rishis."

PM Modi: "Guru Nanak believed that selfless service is priceless. He stood firmly against social evils such as untouchability. He was one of most travelled person of his time. Wherever he went he won hearts through his modesty and humility."

PM Modi: "On 12th November, 550th Prakashotsava of Guru Nanak Devji will be celebrated, he has not only influenced India but entire world. Our Sikh brethren are settled in several countries of the world and devoted completely to ideals of Guru Nanak."

PM Modi: "Rishi Bhrigu got fame because of his daughter Laxmi, King Janaka got fame because of his daughter Sita. Our daughters are our pride, from our daughters only our society draws its strength and hope for future Mann Ki Baat."

PM Modi: "Famous poetess of 17th century Sanchi Honnamma wrote a poem in Kannada depicting the  spirit of Bharat Ki Laxmi, that we are discussing today. How beautiful are these expressions, It means, Himvanta  got fame because of his daughter Parvati." 

PM Modi: "Geetika Swami who is quite active on Twitter says, for her Major Khushboo Kanwar is 'Bharat Ki Laxmi'. She is daughter of a bus conductor, she ledthe all women contingent of the  Assam Rifles  Mann Ki Baat."

PM Modi: "Festival tourism is a global passion. India is land of festivals and presents immense possibilities for festival tourism. We must try to popularise our festivals such as Holi, Diwali, Onam, Pongal or Bihu." 

PM Narendra Modi: "My greetings to you all on the occasion of Deepavali. There is a beautiful Shloka which says -"Light brings with it prosperity, health and knowledge, it destroys the evil in the mind and brings divine thoughts, my salutations to light''

PM Modi in Mann Ki Baat: "Diwali is celebrated in many parts of the world today. Not only the Indian community but also the govts of many countries, their citizens and the social orgs there also participate in these celebrations enthusiastically. In a way they make a 'Bharat' there."
