Former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI soon after his dramatic appearance before media at Congress headquarters on Wednesday. The Congress leader, who was accused by the BJP of evading arrest, said that if he has to choose between the liberty and the life, he will always choose liberty. Security has been beefed up at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Ballard Estate of Mumbai, Maharashtra where Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray will present himself for questioning today.

Investigating Officer (IO) in INX media case, Rakesh Ahuja has been transferred back to Delhi Police. Enforcement Directorate (ED) has clarified that Rakesh Ahuja's term in ED was over 3 weeks back.

12 pm: A day after clashes broke out between protesters and the police in Delhi’s Tughlakabad area during an agitation against the recent demolition of a Ravidas Mandir in the national capital, almost all schools remain shut in the South-East Delhi locality. According to a Times of India report, several daycare centres and private schools decided not to hold classes today. Heavy police deployment can be seen in the area since the Wednesday clashes.

Chidambaram's questioning began at around 9 am, according to sources. One of the main questions asked by the interrogators was, “who had approached you on behalf of the INX Media?” Another question was, “did you know Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, if yes how?” Regarding the fund infusion, the CBI asked Chidambaram how much money was approved in the deal?

The CBI arrested senior Congress leader from his residence in New Delhi in connection with INX media corruption case soon after his dramatic press conference at the party headquarters following day-long accusations of evading arrest.
