New Delhi:

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad will arrive in Srinagar on Friday in his maiden visit following the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status and after three failed attempts in which he was turned back from the airport. Azad will arrive at the Srinagar airport in the afternoon and will meet "daily-wage labourers" in Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla during his four-day trip.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will depart for a week-long visit to the US on Friday. A day later, on Saturday PM Modi along with US President Donald Trump will attend the “Howdy, Modi! Shared Dreams, Bright Futures” mega diaspora event at 6 PM IST. The event is expected to be gathering of 50,000 people.

Mumbai: Part Of 4-Storey Building Collapses Due To Heavy Rains

Search and rescue operations were underway after a portion of a four-storey commercial building at Lokmanya Tilak Road in Mumbai collapsed on Friday. No casualty was reported as the building was already evacuated. According to initial reports, the building collapsed at around 10:45 AM due to heavy rainfall in the region. Seven fire brigades vehicles along with several ambulances rushed to the spot.

Chinmayanand, BJP Leader Accused Of Raping Law Student, Sent To 14 Days Judicial Custody

Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Chinmayanand, who is accused of raping a law student, was sent to judicial custody of 14 days on Friday. He was produced before a local court after being was arrested from his ashram in Uttar Pradesh’ Shahjahanpur on Friday. The arrest came following intense grilling of the BJP leader by SIT on Saturday last week. Last week, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) after the Supreme Court directed to do so to investigate the charges levelled by the woman, who is a postgraduate student at a college run by Chinmayanand's trust.

Opening Bell: Sensex Rebounds Over 100 Points, Banking, Auto Stocks Jump

Domestic equity benchmark BSE Sensex rebounded over 100 points in early session on Friday, driven by gains banking, auto and IT stocks amid positive domestic and global cues. The 30-share index was trading 119.27 points, or 0.33 per cent, higher at 36,212.74 at 0930 hours, while the broader Nifty rose 23.90 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 10,728.70.

The Delhi Metro Rail Network is soon going to have its first dumbbell-shaped metro station. Initially planned in a rectangular shape, the upcoming Najafgarh metro station will be constructed in a dumbbell shape. According to reports, lack of space forced the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to change the shape from regular-rectangular to dumbbell. In yet another case of shootout in the US, several people were reportedly injured after a late-night incident in Washington, DC, according to local media. Police and ambulances are on the scene. The mass shooting took place in Columbia Heights District of Washington, DC. Some reports suggest that as many as six people were injured in the shootout. Now reports are coming in that one person was killed and five injured in the shooting. The incident will yet again spark the debate over gun control. According to a report, the US saw as many as 19 mass shootings this year alone. The total number of deadly mass shootings in the United States in 2019 comes out to an average of one every 13 days, a latest ABC report said.

Petrol, Diesel Rates Today: The upwards trend in petrol and diesel prices continued on Friday. While the rate of one litre of petrol rose by an average of 35-37 paise, diesel saw an average increase of 28-30 paise. It means the price of petrol has seen an average increase of more than one rupee in last four days. The petrol and diesel prices in India are rising after spike in global oil prices following attacks on Saudi Arabian crude oil facilities.
