Former Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar on Friday filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Alipore district and sessions court, a day after a city court said that the CBI does not need a warrant to arrest him in the Saradha chit fund scam case. The plea is likely to be taken up for hearing by the Alipore district and sessions court on Saturday. Over 1,500 farmers from western Uttar Pradesh began their protest march from Noida’s Sector 69 on Saturday. They will try to reach Kisan Ghat in Delhi. These farmers, mostly of them from areas in and around the sugarcane belt of Saharanpur, are protesting against the government over non fulfilment of their demands. The farmers are demanding payment of sugarcane crop dues, full loan waiver and making electricity used in farming free.

2 JeM Overground Workers Asserted From Jammu And Kashmir’s Pulwama

Police conducted raids at several places in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and apprehended two overground workers of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) on the basis of leads provided by three arrested terrorists of the outfit in Kathua earlier, officials said on Saturday. The arrested OGWs include the owner of the intercepted truck, which was ferrying terrorists and AK-type rifles to Kashmir from Punjab, in Kathua district Thursday last, they said.

BJP-Sena Will Contest Jointly, I Will Return As CM, Says Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the BJP and the Shiv Sena will contest the next month’s Assembly polls together. The CM also exuded confidence that he will retain the post after elections. He dismissed media reports that the BJP will contest 162 out of total 288 seats and the Sena 126.

Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Along Loc In J-K's Rajouri, Poonch

At least 16 animals were killed in heavy firing and shelling by Pakistan Army on forward posts and villages in different sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Rajouri districts, officials said on Saturday. The intense shelling from across the border also prompted the authorities to suspend class work in nearly half a dozen government-run schools falling within the firing range in Poonch district on Saturday, they said.

By-Elections Of 64 Constituencies In 18 States To Be Held On October 21, Results On October 24

The By-Elections to 64 constituencies across Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Meghalaya, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh will be held on October 21, the Election Commission announced on Saturday. Counting of votes will be held on October 24, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora said at press conference.

Maharashtra, Haryana Assembly Polls On October 21, Counting On October 24

The Election Commission on Saturday announced the dates for Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly polls. According to the Election Commission, the states of Maharashtra and Haryana will go to polls on October 21. The counting of the votes will take place on October 24. Haryana has 1.82 crore registered voters and Maharashtra has 8.94 crore voters, the EC said. The issue of notification deadline for Maharashtra and Haryana is September 27, while the last date of filing nomination is October 4 and the last date to withdraw nomination is October 7. The 5-year term of the Legislative Assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra expires on 2nd November and 9th November. The Model Code of Conduct will come into force after the announcement of the poll dates.

Election Commission To Announce Dates Of Maharashtra, Haryana Assembly Polls At Noon

All eyes will be on the crucial press conference of the Election Commission today at around 12 noon. The Election Commission is likely to announce the dates for Haryana and Maharashtra Assembly polls today. The schedule for Jharkhand may also be announced at the press conference. The Model Code of Conduct will come into force after the announcement of the poll dates. In case the announcement is made today, it will be mean that the polls will be conducted in October next month. Back in 2014, the Election Commission had announced the dates for both Maharashtra and Haryana on September 12. The voting had taken place on October 15 and results were out by October 19.
