On Air Force Day, the No. 51 Squadron will be awarded the unit citation by IAF chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria. The unit will be awarded for thwarting the Pakistani aerial attack and shooting down a Pakistani F-16 during the dogfight on February 27. The award will be received by the commanding officer Group Captain Satish Pawar. Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was held captive for 60 hours in Pakistan after his aircraft was shot down during the aerial dogfight, belongs to this unit.

A 15-member National Conference (NC) delegation on Sunday met party president Farooq Abdullah and former chief minister Omar Abdullah for the first time since they were put in detention two months ago. The NC delegation, led by Jammu provincial president Devender Singh Rana, flew in to Srinagar from New Delhi. "We are happy that they are both well and in high spirits, of course they are pained by the developments in the state. If the political process has to start then mainstream leaders have to be released," Rana said after the meeting.

Ashwin joint fastest to 350 Test wickets alongside Muralitharan

India's premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Sunday became the joint fastest to take 350 wickets, matching Sri Lankan great Muttiah Muralitharan's feat in his 66th Test.


Ashwin, who had taken his 27th five-wicket haul in the first innings of the opening Test against South Africa, castled Theunis de Bruyn with one that turned back sharply from wide outside the off stump for his milestone wicket on day five.

Three killed as bike catches fire

Three persons, including a child, were burnt alive when a bike hit a truck and caught fire in Kabrai area in Mahoba district, police said on Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday when Anil Prajapati (25), his friend Bijju (17) and a four-year-old boy were going somewhere on the bike.


The bike driver lost control over the vehicle and hit a truck due to which its petrol tank caught fire, killing three on the spot, Circle Officer Jatashankar Rao said.

'Habitual Offender': Indian Army Rejects Charge Of Jawan Claiming Harassment

The Army has strongly rejected charge of soldier Chandu Chavan, who inadvertently crossed into Pakistan in 2016 and said he is quitting the Army due to incessant "harassment" in the force. "Since I came back from Pakistan, I have been continuously harassed in the Army and I am being looked at with suspicion, that is why I decided to quit," he had said. In a late evening statement, the Army said Chavan was absconding from his unit following the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against him after he was found intoxicated in the unit lines recently.

Road Traffic Offenders Can Be Prosecuted Under IPC, Get Stricter Punishment For Dangerous Driving

Driving dangerously and breaking road traffic laws may now land you in more trouble than before. The Supreme Court has ruled that road traffic offences can be prosecuted under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as the Motor Vehicles Act. It set aside a Gauhati High Court order to prosecute offenders of road accidents under Motor Vehicles Act only. The punishment for offenders in case of motor vehicle accidents is stricter under the IPC compared to the MVA.

Clash Between Two Groups At Hotel, 13 Including Cop Injured

At least 13 people, including a police official, were injured in a clash between two groups at a hotel in Maharashtra’s Thane city in the wee hours of Sunday, police said. Trouble started around 12.15 am over parking of two- wheelers by some local youths in the premises of the Fountain Hotel, located on Ghodbunder Road here, when they came there for dinner.
