Prime Minister Narendra Modi will watch Chandrayaan 2's moon landing in the early hours (1:30 am 2: 30 am) of September 7 in Bangaluru. Around 70 students from across the country will be watching Chandrayaan 2's scheduled soft-landing on the moon with PM Modi. The ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition Congress and Left Front has decided to bring a joint resolution in the West Bengal Assembly opposing the NRC in Assam in order to corner the BJP.

President Ram Nath Kovind will be the Chief Guest at the “Swachhata Mahotsava” and will present Awards for outstanding contribution to the journey of Swachh Bharat Mission in various categories at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Delhi Police Files Sedition FIR Against Shehla Rashid

The Delhi Police on Friday lodged a sedition FIR against Shehla Rashid for allegedly spreading ‘false information’ on Kashmir via Twitter. After abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Rashid had tweeted about ‘atrocities’ in Valley. Tweeting from her verified Twitter handle, the political activist had alleged that that ‘(1) army is entering house of people of Kashmir at night; (2)Picking boys (for illegal detention); (3) ransacking houses; (4) spilling ration on the floor; (5)mixing oil with rice; (6) In Sophian Four Kashmiri were called at army camp and were tortured and a mike was kept close to the table so that entire area could hear their scream.’ The Indian Army had categorically denied all the allegations.

Fire At New Delhi Railway Station

Fire broke out at New Delhi Railway Station on Friday. According to early reports, fire started in rear power car of Chandigarh Kochuvalli train at the station. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire.

Supreme Court Issues Notice To Modi Govt Over New Anti-Terror Law 'UAPA'

The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the Narendra Modi government over the new anti-terror law -UAPA, which allows the Centre to designate an individual as terrorist. The Lok Sabha had passed the amendment Bill on July 24 and the Rajya Sabha on August 2. India's most wanted, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar, were first two individuals to be designated as terrorists under the legislation. The amendments give powers to the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to attach properties acquired from proceeds of terrorism. Earlier, the law required that the NIA take prior permission from the respective state police chief to attach the proceeds of terrorism.

Unnao Case: Supreme Court Grants CBI 2 More Weeks To Complete Crash Probe

The Supreme Court on Friday granted two more weeks to CBI to complete probe in the accident case which involved the Unnao rape victim. Top court also directed Delhi High Court to take a decision at the earliest on Special Judge's request to hold court at AIIMS in Delhi to examine the victim. The 19-year-old is undergoing treatment for her grievous injuries at AIIMS.

Robert Mugabe Dies Aged 95

Robert Mugabe, former president of Zimbabwe, has died aged 95 after battling ill health. The President of the African republic Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa confirmed the news on twitter. 


He wrote: "It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe's founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe."

In a what can be termed as massive relief for young leader Kanhaiya Kumar, Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government is set to reject the Delhi Police’s report seeking sanction against him on sedition charges in the two-year-old JNU case. The police had filed a chargesheet in the court against Kumar and others, saying he was leading a procession and supported seditious slogans raised in the JNU campus during an event on February 9, 2016.

Supreme Court refuses to release for 3 more months Rs 10 crore deposited by Karti for travelling abroad

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to release for three more months the Rs 10 crore deposited by Karti Chidambaram with the apex court's registry for travelling abroad.


A bench headed by Justice Deepak Gupta said the amount will continue to remain in fixed deposit for another three months.


Karti, who is facing proceedings in cases like Aircel-Maxis and money laundering matters, had deposited Rs 10 crore pursuant to the condition imposed by the apex court for travelling abroad.


The apex court had in May too dismissed his plea seeking return of the Rs 10 crore.

Partly cloudy morning in Delhi

It was a partly cloudy Friday morning in the national capital, with the minimum temperature recorded at 28.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average, the MeT department said.


The humidity level recorded at 8:30 am was 80 per cent. "The skies will turn cloudy later in the day. There is a possibility of light rain today. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 36 degrees Celsius," a meteorological (MeT) department official said.


On Thursday, the minimum temperature recorded was 28.3 degrees Celsius while the maximum settled at 36.4 degrees Celsius.

Opening Bell: Sensex Jumps Over 200 Points, Techm Rallies 5 Per Cent

Domestic equity benchmark BSE Sensex advanced over 200 points in early session on Friday, led by gains in index heavyweights Infosys and RIL, amid positive cues from global markets. After rising 223 points, the 30-share index was trading 164.05 points, or 0.45 per cent, higher at 36,808.47 at 0930 hours, while the broader Nifty rose 44.15 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 10,892.05.

Rupee rises 17 paise to 71.67 against US dollar in early trade

The Indian rupee appreciated by 17 paise to 71.67 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday as gains in domestic equity market and resumption of US-China trade talks in October strengthened investor sentiments. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 71.87, then gained further ground and touched a high of 71.67, registering a rise of 17 paise over its previous close.

The soft landing of Chandrayaan 2 Vikram lander on lunar surface is scheduled between 1:30 am to 2:30 am on Saturday, September 07, 2019. This will be followed by the Rover roll out between 5:30 am to 6:30 am.
