Communication from Chandrayaan 2’s ‘Vikram’ lander to ground station was lost during its powered descent to the Lunar surface in the early hours of Saturday and data is being analysed. "Vikram lander descent was as planned and normal performance was observed up to an altitude of 2.1 km.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asked ISRO scientists not to get disheartened by the hurdles in the moon mission Chandrayaan-2 and asserted that there will be a “new dawn”.

Chief Minister and Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath will meet Sonia on Saturday. On Friday, Congress general secretary and in- charge of Madhya Pradesh unit Deepal Nabariya met Gandhi and submitted a report on the present situation in the party.

Jammu and Kashmir: Four persons including the baby girl, who were injured in yesterday's attack by terrorists in Sopore, admitted to hospital.

The US has said it continues to support direct dialogue between India and Pakistan on Kashmir and other issues of concern to ease the tensions between the two neighbours. 3 kg heroin recovered near Indo-Pak border in Ferozepur

Three packets of heroin with street value of Rs 15 crore was seized by the BSF personnel near the India-Pakistan border here  Saturday morning, officials said here.


The packets, each containing one kg of the contraband, were hidden in a tyre tube which was covered with water hyacinth, they said.


The Border Security Force sleuths, who were patrolling the Sutlej river area in a boat, recovered heroin near Shameke border outpost at 7 am, they added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday launched an indigenously-built metro coach to be used by the upcoming Mumbai metro network. The coach, the first in the list of 500 to be delivered to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, has been built by Bharat Earth Movers (BEML) at its Bengaluru facility in flat 75 days. Accompanied by state chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Modi launched the coach.

Boeing suspends testing of long-haul 777X aircraft

Boeing has suspended testing on its new long-haul 777X aircraft, the company said Friday, a setback that comes as it battles to rebound from the crisis surrounding the 737 MAX.


The so-called "final load" tests are part of the aircraft certification process, overseen by inspectors from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and meant to subject the plane to "loads and stresses well beyond normal operational loads," a Boeing spokesman told news agency AFP in an email.

The Pakistan army on Saturday targeted forward posts and villages in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district with firing from small arms and mortar shelling, ending nearly a week-long lull along the Line of Control (LoC) , a defence spokesman said.

Baby girl among four injured in terrorist attack in J-K's Baramulla

Four members of a family including a baby girl were injured on Saturday when terrorists attacked a house in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said. "In a merciless act of terrorism, terrorists fired and injured four persons including a baby girl, Usma Jan, at Dangerpora village of Sopore," a police spokesman said.


The injured have been hospitalised and their condition is stated to be stable, he said.


"Police is on the spot and further investigation is in progress," the spokesman said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asked ISRO scientists not to get disheartened by the hurdles in the moon mission Chandrayaan-2 and asserted that there will be a "new dawn".


ISRO's plan to soft land Chandrayaan-2's Vikram module on the Lunar surface did not go as per script in the early hours of Saturday, with the lander losing communication with ground stations during its final descent.


Addressing the scientists hours after ISRO announced that it had lost communication with the lander, he also said that the country's determination to land on the moon has become even stronger.
