New Delhi:

Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Friday, the Jammu and Kashmir police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Warpora area of Sopore, in north Kashmir, acting on specific information about the presence of militants there, police said. The terrorists fired at the search party, leading to a gunfight. Two terrorists have been killed, a police official said, adding the operation was going on. The identity of the militants was yet to be ascertained.

"Two top terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed were eliminated. There was no collateral damage and no injuries to security personnel. Identities yet to be ascertained. The public is requested not to venture into the operational area until it is sanitised," said DIG South Kashmir Atul Kumar Goel.

Restrictions have also been imposed in the town to maintain law and order. Earlier on Monday, security forces had gunned down the mastermind of the Pulwama terror attack along with two other terrorists of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in a fierce encounter in which a major and four other security personnel were also killed.

The encounter took place a week after 40 CRPF jawans lost their lives when a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist carried out an attack on the convoy of the security forces in Pulwama on February 14.

Meanwhile on Friday, two suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were detained by the Uttar Pradesh ATS. A shopkeeper and 12 students, including two from Kashmir, were also detained in an ATS operation at Deoband. The ATS team had some inputs and on the basis of these, a private hostel located near the Khankah police station was raided. The Director General of Police (DGP) said one Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist was identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad Teli and was responsible for recruiting terrorists on the orders of Jaish. He is a resident of Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir and will be interrogated on the Pulwama terror attack. The other terrorist has been identified as Aqib Ahmad, a resident of Pulwama. Two .32 pistols and 30 bullets have been recovered from the terrorists. Provocative videos also recovered from Shahnawaz.
