Bypolls 2019: Voting Ends In 51 Assembly, 2 Lok Sabha Seats Across 17 States, 1 UT

Among The States Ruled By The BJP And Its Allies, The Maximum 11 Seats Will Have Bypolls In Uttar Pradesh, Followed By Six In Gujarat, Five In Bihar, Four In Assam And Two Each In Himachal Pradesh And Tamil Nadu.

Bypolls in as many as 51 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 18 states started on Monday. The BJP and its allies had nearly 30 of these assembly seats, while the Congress had won 12 and the rest were with regional parties. Among the states ruled by the BJP and its allies, the maximum 11 seats will have bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, followed by six in Gujarat, five in Bihar, four in Assam and two each in Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Voting Ends

Voting in all the 51 Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats have ended. However, people who were already in queue will be allowed to cast their votes.

67% Voter Turnout In Rajasthan's Mandawa Till 5 PM

Till 5 pm, 67 per cent voter turnout has been recorded in Rajasthan's Mandawa and 60 per cent in Khinwsar. Assembly bypolls are being held in both constituencies.

38 per cent voter turn out in Samastipur, 48.4 per cent in Satara till 4 pm

Till 4 pm, 38 per cent voter turnout has been recorded in Bihar's Samastipur Lok Sabha bypoll. In Maharashtra's Satara, 48.4 per cent votes have been polled with just one hour to go.

Madhya Pradesh Bypoll: 41.54 Per Cent Polling In Jhabua Till 1 pm

Nearly 41.54 per cent polling was recorded till 1 pm in the by-election to Jhabua Assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh on Monday, an official said. A VVPAT (voter verifiable paper audit trail) unit was changed at one booth due to some technical problem, Jhabua collector Prabal Sipaha told PTI, adding that polling was going on peacefully.

Himachal Bypoll: Nearly 40 Percent Polling On Two Assembly Seats Till 1 PM

About 40 per cent polling was recorded till 1 pm for two assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh, a state election official said on Monday. The voting for Pachhad and Dharamshala seats began at 8 am and the electors may use their right to franchise till 5 pm, he said. As many as 82,137 and 74,487 voters are eligible to exercise their right to franchise in Dharamshala and Pachhad respectively, Additional Chief Electoral Officer (Additional CEO) Rupali Thakur said. The counting will be held on October 24.  A total of 202 polling stations have been set up for two seats. While 113 polling stations are in Pachhad, 89 are in Dharamshala, she added.

53 Per Cent Polling Till 1 PM In Huzurnagar Bypoll

About 53 per cent polling was recorded upto 1 p.m on Monday in the bypoll to Huzurnagar Assembly constituency in Telangana where the ruling TRS, Congress, TDP and BJP are locked in a multi-cornered contest.

Over 28 Per Cent Voting Recorded Till 1 PM In Uttar Pradesh

Polling for the bypolls to 11 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh started to pick up with over 28 per cent voters exercising their franchise till 1pm. Polling, which began at 7 am amid tight security, will continue till to 6 pm, officials said. The election office said the polling, which started on a slow pace, gradually picked up with 28.98 per cent voters casting their votes till 1 pm.

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Bypolls: 15-16 Per Cent Voting Recorded Till 11 AM

Polling for the bypolls to 11 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh began on a slow pace with 15 to 16 per cent voters exercising their franchise till 11 am. Polling, which began at 7 am amid tight security, will continue till to 6 pm. Polling started on a slow pace with about 15 to 16 per cent voters casting their votes till 11 am, the election office here said. Voters are expected to come out in large numbers as the day progresses, they said.

Madhya Pradesh Bypoll: 24.76 Per Cent Turnout Recorded Till 11 AM

Nearly 24.76 per cent polling was recorded till 11 am in the byelection to Jhabua Assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh on Monday, an official said. Polling was going on peacefully. Punjab Bypolls: 29 Per Cent Polling On Four Assembly Seats Till 11 AM

Polling was underway for the bypolls to four assembly seats Phagwara (reserve), Jalalabad, Dakha and Mukerian in Punjab with up to 29 per cent voting being registered in these constituencies. Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm, officials said. Around 7.76 lakh voters are eligible to decide the fate of 33 candidates. The results of the elections will be declared on October 24. Till 11 am, polling percentage in Phagwara was 17.5 per cent, 23.5 per cent in Mukerian, 23.76 per cent in Dakha and 29 per cent in Jalalabad, officials said.

24 Per Cent Polling Till 11:30 AM In Himachal Pradesh

About 24 per cent polling was recorded till 11:30 am for  the two Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh, a state election official said. The voting began at 8 am on Monday at a slow pace which is likely to pick up during the day. The electors may use their right to franchise till 5 pm, he added. Long queues are being seen at some of the polling stations. As many as 82,137 and 74,487 voters are eligible to exercise their right to franchise in Dharamshala and Pachhad respectively, Additional Chief Electoral Officer (Additional CEO) Rupali Thakur said.

Meghalaya Bypoll: 15 Per Cent Polling In First Two Hours

An estimated 15 per cent of nearly 30,000 electors have exercised their franchise in the first two hours of voting in the by-election to Shella Assembly seat in Meghalaya on Monday. Voting for by-election to the Assembly constituency in East Khasi Hills district, close to the Bangladesh border, began at 7 am amidst tight security, Chief Election officer F R Kharkongor said.

Bihar By-Polls: 7.45 Per Cent Voting In Samastipur Lok Sabha Constituency Till 9 Am

Around 7.45 per cent polling was recorded in Samastipur Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar while 8.14 per cent was registered in by-polls to five Assembly seats in the state in the first two hours of voting, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer said. Polling to the seats began at 7 am on Monday amid tight security. A total of 32,27,282 voters including 17,00,333 males, 15,26,867 females and 82 of the third gender would decide the fates of 51 candidates, including six women, in 3,258 polling stations.

About eight per cent polling was recorded in the first hour for two assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh, a state election official said. Eight per cent polling has been recorded for Pachhad, whereas 7.8 per cent for Dharamshala till 9 am, he said. The voting began at 8 am on Monday at a slow pace which is likely to pick up during the day. The electors may use their right to franchise till 5 pm, he added. Long queues are being seen at some of the polling stations.

Polling Underway In 15 Assembly, One Lok Sabha seats in East

Voting for the by-elections to 15 Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat in six states of the eastern region began on Monday amid tight security. Of the 15 Assembly seats, five are in Bihar followed by four in Assam, three in Sikkim and one each in Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Meghalaya. The lone Lok Sabha seat going to the by-polls is in Bihar.

Madhya Pradesh: Voting For Jhabua Assembly Seat On Monday

Polling will be held for the by- election to Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua Assembly seat on Monday. The ruling Congress is making all efforts to wrest the tribal-dominated constituency from the opposition BJP. Voting will be held from 7 am to 5 pm in 356 booths, district collector and returning officer Prabal Sipaha said on Sunday.

Polling for two assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh has begun at 8 am on Monday, a state election official said. The voting started at a slow pace which is likely to pick up during the day. The polling will continue till 6 pm, the official said. As many as 82,137 and 74,487 voters are eligible to exercise their right to franchise in Dharamshala and Pachhad respectively, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Rupali Thakur said.  A total of 202 polling stations have been set up for Pachhad and Dharamshala seats. While 113 polling stations are in Pachhad, 89 are in Dharamshala, she added.

Polling Begins In Two Assembly Seats In Tamil Nadu, Lone Seat In Puducherry

Amid tight security, polling began in two Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and one segment in neighbouring Puducherry as voters turned up enthusiastically to cast their votes early in the day. As the voting exercise began by 7 am, women outnumbered men in a handful of polling stations at Vikravandi in Villupuram District and at Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district. Both youngsters and senior citizens showed equal interest in exercising their franchise.

Voting For By-Election To 11 Assembly Seats In Uttar Pradesh Begins

Voting for the bypolls to 11 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh began on Monday morning amid tight security. Polling began at 7 a.m. and will continue till to 6 p.m. Eight of the 11 seats were held earlier by the BJP and one by BJP ally Apna Dal (Sonelal). The seats of Rampur and Jalalpur (Ambedkarnagar) were held by the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, respectively.

Chhattisgarh: Voting Begins For Chitrakot Assembly Bypoll

Voting for the bypoll to Naxal-affected Chitrakot Assembly constituency in Chhattisgarh began on Monday morning amid heavy security. Six candidates are in fray from the seat, reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, where the byelection was necessitated after Congress MLA Deepak Baij got elected to the Lok Sabha from Bastar parliamentary constituency. Polling began at 8 am and will end at 5 pm, an election official said.

Voting Begins For Bypolls To Six Assembly Seats In Gujarat

Voting for bypolls in six Assembly constituencies of Gujarat began on Monday morning. The by-elections are being held in Tharad, Radhanpur, Kheralu, Bayad, Amraiwadi and Lunawada seats, where voting began at 8 am and will end at 6 pm, a poll official said. A total of 42 candidates are in the fray for the bypolls, which are being viewed as a battle of prestige for Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, as four of these six seats were held by the ruling BJP.

By-election: Polling begins in two assembly seats in Rajasthan

Polling in Mandawa and Khivsar assembly constituencies in Rajasthan began at 7 am on Monday amid tight security arrangements. The by-elections on both the seats are being held after Khivsar (Nagaur) MLA Hanuman Beniwal and Mandawa (Jhunjhunu) MLA Narendra Kumar were elected to the Lok Sabha in May this year.

Not even a single voter has turned up to exercise his/her franchise in the posh Dilkusha area of Lucknow.

Polling For 4 Assembly seats in Punjab Begins

Bypoll polling in four assembly seats in Punjab began on Monday morning. Polling began at 7 a.m. and will continue till 6 p.m., officials said.


The other states where bypolls will be held are Punjab (4 seats), Kerala (5 seats), Sikkim (3 seats), Rajasthan (two seats) and one seat each in Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Puducherry, Meghalaya and Telangana.

Among the states ruled by the BJP and its allies, the maximum 11 seats will have bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, followed by six in Gujarat, five in Bihar, four in Assam and two each in Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The BJP and its allies had nearly 30 of these assembly seats, while the Congress had won 12 and the rest were with regional parties.
