Centre announces new Governors for four states; Najma Heptulla appointed for Manipur

New Delhi:

The Centre on Wednesday announced new Governors for four states – Punjab, Assam, Manipur and Andaman and Nicobar.

While Najma Heptulla has been appointed as the 18th Governor of Manipur, Jagdish Mukhi will be the new Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. 

Former MP Banwari Lal Purohit will be the new Governor of Assam. VP Singh Badnore will become the new Governor of Punjab.

Know about the ministers who will serve as new Governors:

Najma Heptullah

Najma Heptullah, the former Union Minister, has been appointed the new Governor of Manipur. Heptullah, who will be the 18th Governor of Manipur, had resigned from the Union Ministry on July 12, 2016 as she had crossed 75 years of age.

Najma, a former vice-president of BJP and a five time member of the Rajya Sabha, between 1986 and 2012 was the Deputy Chairman of the House for 16 years. 

Jagdish Mukhi

BJP leader Jagdish Mukhi is a former minister of Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation and Higher Education in the Delhi government. He represented the Janak Puri constituency from 1980 till 2014 after losing to AAP leader Rajesh Rishi.

Banwarilal Purohit

Banwarilal Purohit was a Member of Parliament from the Nagpur (Lok Sabha constituency) three times, twice as a Congress member, once as a BJP member. 

VP Singh Badnore

BJP leader VP Singh Badnore hails from Rajasthan and is also associated with Mayo College, Ajmer.
