Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a video in which the senior journalist and commentator Cho Ramaswamy, who died early Wednesday, introduced him as "merchant of death".

The prime minister posted a series of tweets describing Ramaswamy as a "multidimensional personality, towering intellectual, great nationalist & fearless voice who was respected and admired".

Political satirists and editor of Thuglak, a tamil magazine, Cho Ramaswamy passed away in Chennai on Wednesday. He was 82. Ramaswamy was admitted in Apollo Hospital last week after he complained of breathing problems and poor food intake. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Born in the family of lawyers (his father, grandfather and uncle were well-known lawyers), Cho by-profession was a lawyer but later he took to theatre, before entering into journalism. His political satire Mohamed Bin Thuglak was a critically-acclaimed play.

Cho was also conferred  B.D. Goenka award for excellence in journalism, he was also nominated to Rajya Sabha by the BJP government led by A.B. Vajpayee.
