Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a scathing attack the Congress and accused the opposition party of 'playing petty politics'. Amit Shah took to twitter and tweeted, "Under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, India’s efforts to fight coronavirus are being lauded domestically and globally. 130 crore Indians are united to defeat COVID-19. Congress is playing petty politics. High time they think of national interest and stop misleading people."
This came after Congress Working Committee met via video conference and criticised the Narendra Modi government for “the unplanned manner in which it (the nationwide lockdown) has been implemented”.
Earlier, Congress president Sonia Gandhi hit out at Modi government and accused the centre of declaring unplanned lockdown. "The way lockdown was imposed by the government with few hours of prior information has created problems for common people. Lakhs of migrant workers were forced to return to their villages in the absence of transportation services. This has hurt many people," Congress President Sonia Gandhi said.
Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, who has been vocal in his criticism of the government over the migrant crisis, urged the Prime Minister to develop “an India-specific strategy” and called on party leaders and workers to “help soften the blow by assisting the poor”.
He described the contagious disease as a "huge problem" and said ignoring it was a "non-solution". "I will keep repeating this. The coronavirus is a huge problem. Ignoring the problem is a non solution," Gandhi said in a tweet.
"The Indian economy will be destroyed if strong action is not taken. The government is in a stupor," the former Congress chief said. He also retweeted his February 12 post in which he had said coronavirus is a huge threat to the people.
