New Delhi:

In order to prevent spread of novel Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday imposed curfew in the state. Notably, the curfew has come into effect in all 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh at 5 PM (IST). The development comes after the state government found many people defying the lockdown orders.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur stated that the state government was forced to take the step as many people defied the lockdown clamped in the state since Monday. "Several people were moving on the roads despite the restrictions. So, the state government was left with no option but to impose a curfew in the entire state," PTI quoted CM Thakur as saying.

The Chief Minister also requested people of the state to follow the instructions issued by the state and central governments and remain indoors.

It is to be noted that 120 cases for coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported across India on Tuesday, taking the total count to 555. So far, a total of 10 deaths have been reported across the country. Maharashtra has accounted for 101 of the total 555 cases, followed by Kerala (91). However, in Himachal Pradesh, two cases of coronavirus have been reported so far.

A 32-year-old man from Harchakkian tehsil and a 64-year-old woman from Dohabe village in Shahpur subdivision were tested positive for the disease on Friday. Whereas, a 69-year-old man who recently travelled from the US and came to Kangra on March 21 in a taxi from Delhi had died of the infection at Tanda's Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College on Friday.

In view of the increased cases of coronavirus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the country today at 8 pm. Early today, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan reviewed the status of containment and management of COVID-19 in the country and emphasised on the quality and sturdiness of the community surveillance and contact tracing.
