The National Task Force for COVID-19 constituted by Indian Council of Medical Research has recommended the use of hydroxychloroquine for treatment of COVID-19 in high-risk cases, report news agency ANI on Monday.
Hydroxychloroquine is a malaria treatment that has been in use around the world for decades. According to recent French study, hydroxychloroquine may be beneficial if taken with an antibiotic mechanism for fighting a coronavirus infection. According to LA Times, at least seven clinical trials have begun in China to test hydroxychloroquine in patients with COVID-19, and the University of Minnesota also launched one of its own this week. President Donald Trump has been one of the supporters of the drug. He had tweeted out an endorsement of a preliminary report from France in which six patients received hydroxychloroquine along with the antibiotic azithromycin.
