The number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 873 in India on Saturday with the death toll rising to 20. One person died in a Kochi hospital in first death from Kerala state on Saturday. According to the Union Health Ministry, the number of active novel coronavirus cases in the country stood at 775, while 78 people were either cured or discharged and one had migrated.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic claimed 969 lives, a new single-day record high in fatalities, in Italy on Friday. The total number of coronavirus cases in Italy reached 86,498 on Friday, exceeding the total figure registered in China. The United States now has more than 100,000 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, a tracker maintained by Johns Hopkins University showed Friday. There have been 100,717 cases including 1,544 deaths so far. (With Agency Inputs)

In its updated figures at 9.30 am, the ministry mentioned two fresh deaths - one each in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Thus, deaths due to COVID-19 have so far been reported from Maharashtra (5), Gujarat (3), Karnataka (2), Madhya Pradesh (2) and one each from Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Punjab, Delhi, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

China has reported 54 new imported coronavirus cases, taking their tally in the last few days to 649, while the death toll in the country has risen to 3,295 with three more fatalities confirmed on Friday, China's National Health Commission said on Saturday.

The United States on Friday announced USD 174 million financial assistance to 64 countries including USD 2.9 million to India to help them fight the coronavirus pandemic. This is in addition to the USD 100 million aid announced by the US in February.
Iran announced 144 new deaths from COVID-19 and 2,926 new cases of infection. Meanwhile, Turkey's number of COVID-19 infections kept rising fastly as the second hardest-hit country in the Middle East.
