New Delhi:

India saw its third coronavirus-related death on Tuesday as the number of Covid-19 cases in the country rose to 126. According to the Union Health Ministry, the 126 cases include 22 foreign nationals, 13 people who have recovered and three persons who died in Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra. On Tuesday, a 64-year-old man from Mumbai with a travel history to Dubai died of the novel coronavirus. A 76-year-old man from Kalaburagi who returned from Saudi Arabia died last week, a 68-year-old woman in Delhi who had tested positive for coronavirus passed away at the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on Friday night.

Delhi has so far reported seven positive cases while Uttar Pradesh has recorded 13 cases, including one foreigner. Karnataka has 8 coronavirus patients while Maharashtra 39, including 3 foreigners. Ladakh has reported four cases while Jammu and Kashmir three. Telangana has reported four cases. Rajasthan has also reported four cases including that of two foreigners. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab have reported one case each. Odisha reported its first case on Monday. In Haryana, there are 15 cases, which includes fourteen foreigners, while Uttarakhand has reported one case. Kerala has recorded 24 cases including two foreign nationals. The number also includes three patients who were discharged last month after they recovered from the contagious infection with flu-like symptoms.

Meanwhile, the government of India barred travel of passengers from Afghanistan, Philippines, Malaysia to India till 31st March, with immediate effect. The government had already imposed fresh travel restrictions, prohibiting entry of passengers from the EU countries and the UK from March 18.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths around the world linked to the new coronavirus has topped 7,000, after Italy announced a new surge in fatalities, according to an AFP tally at 1700 GMT on Monday. A total of 7,007 people have died, with a 175,536 infections recorded globally. China has the highest number of fatalities at 3,213, followed by Italy with 2,158 deaths and almost 28,000 cases. Rajasthan government on Tuesday banned all gatherings at public places exceeding 50 people till March 31 to fight the coronavirus outbreak, PTI reported quoting an official statement.


A 29-year-old woman from Haryana's Gurgaon district has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, a health official said on Tuesday. According to PTI, the woman is an employee of a Gurgaon-based company and had recently travelled to Malaysia and Indonesia.

The health ministry has expanded compulsory quarantine for a minimum period of 14 days for passengers coming from/transiting through UAE, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait. This will come into effect from 1200 GMT on 18th March at the port of first departure. This will be in force till 31st March.

The UN Security Council called off its two remaining meetings for the week on Monday due to the coronavirus crisis. The council was "still functioning" despite abandoning its remaining sessions for the week, said the Chinese mission, which holds this month's rotating presidency of the body. Karnataka on Tuesday confirmed two news cases of COVID-19 taking the number of positive cases in the state to 10. According to ANI, a 20 year-old woman with travel history to the UK and a 60 year-old person, a contact of the deceased Kalaburagi COVID-19 patient, have tested positive. Both are admitted in designated isolation hospital.

The number of coronavirus cases touched 114 in the country on Monday after fresh cases were reported from several states, including Odisha. The Union health ministry also said fresh coronavirus cases were also reported from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Kerala.
