COVID-19: Sixth Batch Of 275 Indians Evacuated From Coronavirus-Hit Iran, To Be Kept At Army Wellness Centre

New Delhi:

Another batch of 275 Indian citizens, who were evacuated from coronavirus-hit Iran, reached Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on Sunday. The sixth batch of Indians, which mostly includes pilgrims and students, will now be shifted to the Army wellness centre in the city.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rohit Kumar Singh said of the 275 passengers, there were 133 women and 142 men, including two infants and four children.

Union Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Sunday said that SpiceJet and IndiGo aircraft took 275 Indians, who were recently evacuated from coronavirus-hit Iran, from Delhi to Jodhpur for quarantine. In a tweet, Puri said "Operation Namaste! Efforts to safeguard Indian citizens against Covid19 continue."

Earlier, India evacuated a the fifth batch of 277 people evacuated from Iran. The preliminary screening of the evacuees, mostly pilgrims, was conducted at the airport upon arrival and thereafter, they were taken to the Army Wellness Facility set up at the Jodhpur Military Station.

The Army at present is operating medical facilities for evacuees at Manesar, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur with evacuees from Iran, Italy and Malaysia occupying these.

“The Army, in coordination with Rajasthan medical authorities and the civil administration, has made adequate medical and administrative arrangements to ensure a comfortable stay for the evacuees and provide prophylactic medical support”, a defence spokesperson had earlier said.

According to the Union Health Ministry, 979 people have tested positive for coronavirus in India while 25 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported so far.
