Bypoll Results: Trinamool Wins All 3 Seats In West Bengal, BJP Bags Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh Constituency

Trinamool Congress (TMC) On Thursday Won Bypolls To All The Three Seats In West Bengal Including Kaliaganj, Karimpur, And Kharagpur Constituency. On The Other Hand, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bagged Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh Seat.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday won bypolls to all the three seats in West Bengal including Kaliaganj, Karimpur, and Kharagpur constituency. This is the first time the TMC has won the Kaliaganj and Kharagpur Sadar seats. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh seat. 

West Bengal Bypolls: Nearly 78 per cent of over seven lakh electorate had cast their votes in the bypolls to Kaliaganj, Karimpur, and Kharagpur Sadar Assembly seats where 18 candidates were in the fray. The Kharagpur Sadar and Karimpur seats fell vacant after the general elections as the sitting MLAs of the two seats Dilip Ghosh (BJP) and Mahua Moitra (TMC) had contested and won Lok Sabha seats. On the other hand, the bypoll at Kaliaganj was necessitated following the death of Congress MLA Parmathanath Roy. Congress nominee Dhitashree Roy, supported by the CPI(M), is pitted against TMC's Tapan Deb Sinha and BJP's Kamal Chandra Sarkar at Kaliaganj. In Karimpur the CPI(M)-Congress candidate Gholam Rabbi is in the reckoning against Majumdar and the ruling TMC's Bimalendu Singha Roy. In Kharagpur Sadar the contestants are Prem Chandra Jha of BJP, Chittaranjan Mandal of the Congress-CPI(M) alliance and Pradip Sarkar of the TMC. 

Uttarakhand Bypolls: Over 47 per cent of the electorate cast their vote in Pithoragarh Assembly bypoll of Uttarakhand on Monday. The election was necessitated after the death of sitting MLA and Cabinet Minister Prakash Pant in June. Pant's wife Chandra is contesting against Congress' Anju Lunthi in the bypoll. Samajwadi Party's Lalit Mohan Bhatt is also in the race.

15:00 PM: Trinamool Congress wins all 3 seats in Wedt Bengal. Trinamool candidate Bimalendu Singha Roy bags Karimpur constituency. 

14:30 PM: BJP's Chandra Pant has won the Pithoragarh seat in Uttarakhand by 3267 votes.

13:45 PM: Trinamool Congress has registered a victory in the Kharagpur Sadar seat by a margin of 20,811 votes. TMC candidate Pradip Sarkar has defeated BJP's Prem Chandra Jha. Congress candidate Chittaranjan Mandal has come third.

13:15 PM: BJP's Chandra Pant is leading from the Pithoragarh seat in Uttarakhand by a margin of over 2,500 votes. Congress' Anju Lunthi trails. Samajwadi Party's Manoj Kumar Bhatt has won garnered about 730 votes.

12:40 PM: BJP candidate Chandra Pant leading by 1856 votes after eighth round in Pithoragarh bypoll.

12:20 PM: TMC leading on Karimpur and Kharagpur Assembly seats. Trinamool Congress has taken a big lead from the Karimpur seat, where its candidate Bimalendu Sinha Roy is ahead by a margin of over 28,000 votes. In Kharagpur Sadar, Pradip Sarkar is up by more than 16,000 votes.

11:55 AM: TMC candidate Pradip Sarkar wins Kaliaganj Assembly seat by 2304 votes.

11:40 AM: Chandra pant of BJP is leading by 1486 votes after sixth round on Pithoragarh Assembly seat. 

11:30 AM: TMC's Bimalendu Sinha Roy is leading by a margin of nearly 15,000 votes in Karimpur as BJP's Jay Prakash Majumdar trails. 

11:15 AM: TMC's Pradip Sarkar has taken a lead by 6,000 votes over BJP's Prem Chandra Jha. TMC now leads in two of the three West Bengal seats, including Karimpur. BJP is leading from the Kaliaganj seat.

10:50 AM: BJP is currently leading in two seats in Bengal, Kaliaganj and Kharagpur Sadar. The TMC is trailing in both these seats. However, the party leads in the third seat in the state, Karimpur. In Uttarakhand, BJP is leading by a slim margin against the Congress.

10:30 AM: BJP's Chandra Pant has taken a lead in the Pithoragarh contest by a slim margin of just 44 votes at the moment. Congress candidate Anju Lunthi is trailing. 

10:00 AM: TMC candidate Bimalendu Sinha Roy is leading from the Karimpur bypoll seat by a large margin of 4,643 votes. His closest competitor is BJP's Jay Prakash Majumdar. 

9:50 AM: BJP candidate Kamal Chandra Sarkar has taken a lead of around 1,600 votes over Trinamool Congress' Tapan Deb Sinha.

9:40 AM: In Kharagpur Sadar, Congress' Chittaranjan Mandal is leading by 544 votes.
