COVID-19: PM Modi, Putin Discuss Anti-Coronavirus Measures Over Phone

New Delhi:

Amid novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in more than 120 countries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday held a telephonic conversation. During the conversation, the two leaders exchanged information about measures introduced in both countries to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Kremlin’s press service said.

In a statement, the press service said, “In line with the ongoing confidential dialogue reflecting the special nature of the Russian-Indian strategic partnership, Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi informed each other in detail about the measures introduced in both countries to counter the spread of this infection,"

According to the statement, Russian President Putin and Indian PM Narendra Modi also agreed to strengthen coordination of efforts in the fight against the deadly disease.

So far, Russia has recorded 658 positive cases of coronavirus. Most cases, 410, were reported in Moscow.

Early today, Russian President addressed his country over the coronavirus crisis in a rare televised broadcast. Putin declared a national holiday in Russia from March 28 to April 5. However, he stated that the essential industries such as medical institutions, pharmacies, shops, banks, financial institutions, transportation, as well as government bodies at all levels will continue to work.

On the other hand, the total number of coronavirus cases in India surged to 606 including 43 foreign nationals. Whereas, the number of deaths was 10. The number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 553 while 43 people have been cured, discharged or migrated.
