New Delhi :

Jain Monk Muni Tarun Sagar on Monday reacted to Vishal Dadlani’s tweet about his address at Haryana state assembly by saying that Bollywood music composer and singer knows nothing about Jainism.

"I don't think he knows anything about Jainism or our beliefs," said Sagar, whose address to the Haryana legislators last week has snowballed into a major controversy.

The BJP government in Haryana had invited the Jain monk, who appeared in nude, to deliver a lecture called 'Kadve Vachan' in the state Assembly on Friday.

However, the religious leader said that he is not seeking any apology from Bollywood star, “The question of apology doesn't arise as I am not angry with him in the first place," he said.

Dadlani, a staunch Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporter, had called Sagar's speech as "monkery" in a tweet, which he later deleted and tendered an apology, saying he "made a mistake by offending the peaceful Jain community".

But the tweet had already invited the ire of the Jain community, forcing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to publicly rebuke one of his closest supporters.

"I met Shri Tarun Sagar ji Maharaj last year. Our family regularly listens to his discourses on TV. We deeply respect him and his thoughts Tarun Sagar ji Maharaj is a very revered saint, not just for Jains but everyone. Those showing disrespect is unfortunate and should stop (sic)," Kejriwal tweeted.

Stung by his closest associates, Dadlani announced his decision to quit "all active political work".

The Jain monk also revealed the AAP government in Delhi had also invited him for a similar address in March this year.

"Yes, I had to address the Delhi Assembly on March 15, but the programme got cancelled at the last minute. CM Arvind Kejriwal and Speaker of the House had invited me," Sagar told news agency ANI.
