A day after the Narendra Modi government scrapped the Article 370, a report said that ground reality in Jammu and Kashmir is ‘normal’. Quoting government sources, news agency ANI said that no agitations were reported in and around the Valley. On the situation in Jammu and Kashmir post-revocation of Article 370, the government sources said that, “there is peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. It has been event free, no agitations held. People also moving about for essential work.” Back in Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will move the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2019, The Jammu & Kashmir Reservation (Second Amendment) Bill 2019 and the resolution revoking Article 370 from J&K, in the Lok Sabha today. Though government sources have stated that there is peaceful situation in the Valley, point is that with strict curfew and other restrictions in place, there is no way to contact anyone in Srinagar. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, who is in Kashmir, will review the situation and hold meetings in the Valley. In an unprecedented move that is likely to spark unrest in the Valley, the Narendra Modi government on Monday scrapped part of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

On Monday, Former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, who were placed under house arrest, were arrested. Besides Mufti and Abdullah, Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference leaders Sajjad Lone and Imran Ansari have also been arrested. The arrest of Mufti and Abdullah, two mainstream leaders of Kashmir, came hours after the Narendra Modi government striped the state of its special status.

“Today marks the darkest day in Indian democracy. Decision of J&K leadership to reject 2 nation theory in 1947 & align with India has backfired. Unilateral decision of GOI to scrap Article 370 is illegal & unconstitutional which will make India an occupational force in J&K,” Mufti had said after the government announced scrapping of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir.
