In a shocking case of medical negligence, a bleeding pregnant woman was taken to a community health centre, after covering a distance of 10 kms, on a motorcycle as the hospital didn’t send an ambulance. According to reports, the appalling incident took place in Jharkhand's Latehar and visuals of the unconscious woman on a motorcycle are being widely circulated on social media.
The 30-year-old woman, identified as Shanti Devi, was driven to the Chandwa community health centre (CHC) on a motorcycle by her husband Kamal Ganjhu.
The ordeal of four-and-a-half-month-old pregnant woman, who is a resident of Chatuag village, didn’t end there as the doctors at community health centre referred her to the Latehar Sadar hospital. The only relief was that she was provided an ambulance this time to cover the distance of another 27 kilometres.

"My wife has been suffering from fever for the past three days and she was bleeding too. I dialed 108 to request an ambulance but we did not get it," said Kamal Ganjhu.
Upon reaching the Sadar hospital, doctors asked the family to take the woman to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi as the hospital did not have an adequate amount of her blood group.
"Her hemoglobin count was too low when she came to the hospital. Our blood bank did not have an adequate amount of her blood group. Hence, we decided to shift her further," said District Civil Surgeon, Shivpoojan Sharma.
However, the surgeon said that the allegations of the ambulance being denied are completely baseless
"The allegations of the ambulance being denied are completely baseless. We were informed that the ambulance came within 40 minutes from the village. If one is in need of an ambulance, they must wait for some time," the surgeon said.
Shanti was finally admitted at RIMS and the treatment was finally started.
