Rain has brought some relief from the life haunting heat and farmers now have a reason to put their hope on better future. (Also Read Drought: Centre puts onus on states)

It is just few hours back, locals were demanding nothing less than 50-wagon daily water train to ease shortages and they were disappointed as the 2.5 million litres carried by the train and ferried by tankers to villages was not enough to meet the needs of Latur’s half a million people and Marathwada’s 19 million.(Also Read: Maharashtra govt to pay Rs 1272 crore interest on crop loan to drought-hit farmers

The current rain has definitely bring some cheer for the locals and also for the administration who were trying every bit to minimise shortage of water in the area. (Also Read No IPL match in Maharashtra after May 1, says Supreme Court)

Marathwada, home to many sugar mills in Maharashtra—the nation’s top producer, is one of the several regions in India that received below-average June-September rains in 2015.
