Educational institutions, government offices to reopen in Jammu and Kashmir today

New Delhi:

The district administration in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba has asked authorities to re-open all the educational institutions including government and private schools with effect from August 9, 2019, according to an order issued by the government on Thursday.

Another directive passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary orders all the government employees to report back to their duties with immediate effect. Those employees include people working at divisional level, district level and those serving in civil secretariat in Srinagar.

It was further intimated that necessary arrangements regarding smooth and secure working environment for the employees have been made by the administration.

In early August, authorities were instructed to keep all schools, colleges and academic institutions, both private and government, shut until further notice, in the wake of security threat in the region.

Security across the Valley was strengthened with additional deployment of paramilitary forces, including Rapid Action Force (RAF). In less than a week, the Centre deployed additional 38,000 troops in two batches - 10,000 and 28,000, triggering panic and rumour in the region.

The unrest in the Valley further intensified with authorities issuing an advisory, asking tourists, Amarnath pilgrims and students to cut short their stay citing security threats.

The moves were taken days ahead of the Centre’s move to revoke the Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate the state into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
