New Delhi:

The tussle between the BJP and Shiv Sena over equal power sharing in Maharashtra has taken an ugly turn on Friday with Uddhav Thackeray hinting at snapping ties with the saffron ally. Reacting to Devendra Fadnavis’s press conference where the acting Maharashtra CM claimed that the 50:50 power sharing formula was never on cards, Thackeray said that it was the first time someone accused him of lying.

"Devendra Fadnavis accused me of lying. Now I can’t face Shiv Sainiks. I want to remind that Amit Shah and Devendra Fadnavis came to me, I did not go to them (for pre-poll alliance)," Thackeray said.

The Sena chief said that before announcing the pre-poll alliance, BJP had offered Sena deputy CM’s post. “…Amit Shah asked me what I wanted? I told him that I promised Balasaheb that there will be a Shiv Sena Chief Minister one day and I will fulfil that promise,” he said.

He also announced to stop all the communication with the BJP till the saffron party fulfil its promise of equal power share. “It is very sad that while cleaning the Ganga their minds became polluted. I felt bad that we entered into an alliance with the wrong people,” he added, hinting at snapping ties with the BJP in case his demands are not met with.

The Sena and the BJP are locked in a tussle since the Uddhav Thackeray-led party asked BJP to abide by the promise of rotational chief minister and implementation of a “50:50 power sharing” formula, which entails equal allocation of ministerial portfolios. The BJP has rejected both the demands and said that no such promise was made to Sena.
