New Delhi:
The Centre on Tuesday has appointed four new judges to the Gujarat High Court, taking the total number of judges to 31, sources said.
As per the notification issued by the Law Ministry, Umesh Amritlal Trivedi, Ajaykumar Chandulal Rao, Vireshkumar Bavchandbhai Mayani and Dr Ashutosh Pushkerray Thaker have been appointed as the judges, in the order of seniority.
While Trivedi is an advocate, the three others are judicial officers, it said.

According to reports, the Gujarat High Court was functioning with 27 judges as against the sanctioned strength of 52, which was short by 25 judges. However, with the new appointments, the working strength of the high court rises to 31 judges.
Meanwhile, three judges are retiring in another three months, as per report.
In April, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended fives names for their elevation to high court judges, including judicial officer Vishnukumar Prabhudas Patel to be appointed as High Court judge. However, Patel’s name did not make it in the latest notification issued by the Law Ministry, said the sources.
