New Delhi:

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was flown to New Delhi today for his follow-up treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The medical review/ checkup was pending due to the inauguration of Atal Setu and State Legislative Assembly session. Parrikar, 63, is suffering from a pancreatic ailment and has been recuperating at his private residence at Dona Paula near here since October 14 last year, after he was discharged from AIIMS. "The chief minister flew to Delhi at around 6 pm after the conclusion of the three-day state legislative assembly session," the official said.

Ever since Parrikar was discharged from AIIMS, he has made few public appearances. He has been clearing official files from his residence. The chief minister, who was admitted to hospitals in Goa, Mumbai, New Delhi and the US in 2018, had chaired a Business Advisory Committee meeting last week. On Wednesday, he presented the budget in the state assembly while sitting on his chair, with a tube inserted through his nose.

"I am presenting the budget in 'josh'. The 'josh' that is too high, very high, and fully in 'hosh'," he had said in the House.

On January 27, a 5.1-km long cable-stayed "Atal Setu" on the Mandovi river in Goa, a third such bridge to connect the state capital with North Goa opened to public by Union minister Nitin Gadkari. The public event was attended for the first time since the last one year by ailing Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who earned praise from Gadkari for his perseverance in following up the project.

"Parrikar has played a lion's role in the development of Goa. The inauguration of this bridge is completion of a dream of Parrikar," the Road Transport and National Highways Minister said.

The bridge is made of 1 lakh cubic metres of high strength, high performance concrete enough to fill 40 Olympic size swimming pools. At 2.5 lakh tonnes, the weight of the humongous structure is equivalent to 570 Boeing aircraft.

During the event, Manohar Parrikar asked ‘How is the josh’ to the crowd who came at the inauguration function of the new Mandovi Bridge "Atal Setu" in Panaji. Parrikar said that he would transfer his josh to the crowd and speak few words.
