Govt secures release of 5 Indian nationals abducted in Myanmar by insurgent group Arakan Army

New Delhi:

The Indian government has secured the release of five Indian nationals abducted in Myanmar. On Novermber 3, these five Indian nationals, along with a Myanmar MP, two local transporters and one speedboat operators were abducted by insurgent group Arakan Army on way from Paletwa to Kyauktaw in Rakhine province of Myanmar. Timely intervention by Government of India has ensured release of five abducted Indian nationals and others in the early hours of November 4, 2019. 

However, one of the Indian nationals died in custody of Arakan Army due to heart attack. According to information available, he was a chronic diabetes patient. The released Indian nationals, along with the body of the deceased, have reached Sittwe (Myanmar) and will be leaving for Yangon ( Myanmar) on Tuesday for onward journey to India. The abducted Indians were currently engaged in building the Kaladan road project in Myanmar.
